The Devonport Naval Heritage Centre comprises of a wide variety of historically significant items (some nationally so) as well as a large collection of various items of less significance historically although important to Devonport from a heritage perspective. The collection is housed in a variety of buildings (some themselves historic) around the Naval Base and Courageous.
The Centre is a result of a collaborative effort by a mixture of volunteers, interested people, enthusiasts and Naval Base personnel to rescue and/or preserve historical artefacts. Courageous is a decommissioned submarine currently located in 3 Basin which provides an opportunity for the public to tour a retired nuclear submarine.
The Devonport Naval Heritage Centre is staffed by Volunteers who give their time and expertise for free. The Centre is supported by The Royal Navy at Devonport and The Friends of Devonport Naval Heritage Centre, an independent registered charity that exists to support the work of the centre.
